Ludo Rules and Winning Tips
How to play Ludo: getting out of base, safe squares, captures, extra turns and simple tips to win more games with friends.
Ludo is a race: bring all four of your tokens around the board and into the home column before anyone else. Luck decides the dice, but your choices decide who wins.
Basic rules
- Each player has four tokens that start in the base. You need to roll a 6 to bring a token onto the board.
- On your turn, roll the dice and move one token forward by that number.
- You cannot move past home. You need the exact number to reach it, so a roll that is too high cannot move that token.
- If you cannot move at all, the turn passes.
Extra turns
You get another roll after rolling a 6, after capturing an opponent's token and after getting a token home. But three sixes in a row lose your turn.
Captures and safe squares
Landing on a square with an opponent's token sends it back to its base. Starred or start squares are safe: tokens there cannot be captured.
Winning tips
- Get a second token out early when you roll a 6. More tokens means more choices.
- Capture when you can: it costs your opponent a 6 to restart and gives you another roll.
- Park on safe squares when an opponent token sits just behind you.
- Keep a token close to the home column so a lucky roll finishes it.
- Do not rush one token if it leaves others stranded in base.
On Booick, Ludo supports 2 to 4 players. The server rolls the dice, so nobody can cheat, and bots fill empty seats.
